I (he/him) am an associate professor of German Studies at The College of Charleston in South Carolina, where I teach all levels of German as a world language. While my dissertation and early research focused on contemporary German theater, I have increasingly shifted my focus to performative approaches to teaching culture and literature and addressing issues of social and racial justice in the world language classroom through theater. In my teaching and research, I find myself increasingly inspired by devised theater models and by colleagues who work in Applied Theater and employ methodologies from the Theater of the Oppressed, and am thus very excited to be able to attend this conference for the first time!
