Vincent Iaropoli

As a seasoned arts administrator and teaching artist, I bring over 25 years of experience from a diverse array of arts organizations, including the Juilliard School, New York City Opera, and Elevator Repair Service Theater. My journey in the world of performing arts has taken me from Broadway to Off-Broadway, and on tour across the U.S. and globally.

In 2022, my path first intersected with the Theatre of the Oppressed during an introductory workshop led by Geo Britto at New York University. This encounter sparked a transformative journey, leading me to further study at Escola de Teatro Popular with Britto and Julian Boal in 2023.

Inspired by the power of Augusto Boal's Theatre of the Oppressed, I have since used these techniques as a catalyst for social change within my circle of influence. I have devised and led Image Theatre workshops for an urban Catholic church community in the New York metropolitan area, addressing intersectional issues of racial inequity, ageism, and other forms of prejudice. These workshops have served as a platform for fostering community conversations and exploring alternative ways of being in the face of oppressive power.

Currently, I am pursuing a doctorate in educational theatre at NYU Steinhardt, with my research focusing on the intersection of leadership theory, social change, and applied theater. I hold a BFA from NYU Tisch and an MPA from NYU Wagner.

At the conference, I look forward to sharing my experiences and insights on using Image Theatre as a tool for community engagement and social change. My presentation will highlight practical takeaways from my work, aiming to inspire and equip attendees with strategies to address societal issues through the transformative power of arts participation.
