Desco’s Founder and Executive Director. Her work focuses on Latin American theater with an emphasis on theater for social change and the use of theater as a tool for decolonization. Her work is influenced by her activism and at the core of what she does is the belief that our bodies are crucial for empathy, connection, knowing and healing. She was trained at CTO in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and was also one of the organizers of the IV Encuentro Latinoamericano de Teatro del Oprimido in Nicaragua. Garzón identifies as a Latina, immigrant, queer, and feminist woman of color. She is also an actress, director and bilingual voice over talent with more than twenty-five years of experience in performing arts and entertainment. Garzón has worked in the United States as well as in several countries abroad including Guatemala, Brazil, Nicaragua, Australia, Colombia, and Mexico. She is also a Theater and Humanities professor at Rollins College and Valencia College. Descolonizarte TEATRO (Desco) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit professional Latinx theater organization with the mission of promoting diverse Latin American experiences, cultures, and talents through artistic and educational programming with a focus on the intersection of Latinx, immigrant, and LGBTQIA+ identities.

Fundadora y Directora Ejecutiva de Desco. Su trabajo se enfoca en el teatro latinoamericano con énfasis en el teatro para el cambio social y el uso del teatro como herramienta para la descolonización. Su trabajo está influenciado por su activismo y en su esencia está la creencia de que nuestros cuerpos son cruciales para la empatía, la conexión, el conocimiento y la sanación. Se formó en el CTO de Río de Janeiro, Brasil, y también fue una de las organizadoras del IV Encuentro Latinoamericano de Teatro del Oprimido en Nicaragua. Garzón se identifica como una mujer de color latina, inmigrante, queer y feminista. También es actriz, directora y locutora bilingüe con más de veinticinco años de experiencia en artes escénicas y entretenimiento.
